Hawaiian Festival in Sakae at Oasis 21

I went to the Hawaiian Festival! It was great.

I packed up and 3 kids and we headed out just before ten. Walked to the subway and got on the train. When the train stopped at Nagoya a ton of people got on. They had the employees on the platforms to make sure that the doors would close. Most people got off at Sakae, which was where we were going as well. Its hard to be on a packed train with 3 small children and a stroller, but we made it there without too much trouble.

First thing we did
was get some of the informational papers and look at some of the booths. Most were for clothes, jewelry, bags, hair ties, etc. There were 2 travel booths and Toyota had 2 cars out with people handing out papers.

After looking around, the girls got thirsty and we stopped at Starbucks for a drink. I had meant to get them both chocolate milk, but ended up miss-communicating and getting one chocolate milk and two matcha blended drinks. Charlette ended up with a matcha drink and Leah got the chocolate milk.

Then it was back outside where we got to watch some hula dancers. I was surprised by how old many of the ladies were. They were all fantastic and did a great job and were fun to watch, but the majority of the women dancers were over 50. After about the 10th group came up the girls were done sitting. They wanted to walk around!

We headed out and walked around Oasis 21. We went to "NHK Character", a store that sells collectibles and children's goods for Studio Ghibli and other popular Japanese children's shows. Then we went next door to an anime store that has lots of One Piece items. Everyone was getting hungry at this point so we went looking for the food vendors. We went up and across the street to where they were supposed to be, but none were open yet. So we headed back down to where the other vendors were and ate at one of the diners there.

I wish I had picked a different diner. The Italian diner I picked was a bit nicer than I felt comfortable in, at least with three small childrend... plus I ended up in the smoking area. The people next to us smoked and I felt very self conscious of my apparently poor decision. The kids did great anyways. They ate their food and didn't make a mess and were quiet and sat in their seats, like little angels.

Walked around some more and then had some ice cream. Leah got orange, Charlette got strawberry banana, and I got macaroon flavored. The ice cream server made a perfect ball of ice cream and perched it on top of the cone. When we left Leah ended up dumping her ice cream on the ground. Before I could say or do anything, she picked it up and put it back on her cone and started eating it again.

I think shes going to be fine.

Then it was back to the subway, to try our best to smash our way into the stuffed train. We made it on and were packed in like sardines. Most people got off at Nagoya station and we were able to have a seat until we got to our station (one stop later). We got off, headed up the elevator and made it home in the hot humid weather of Nagoya.

It was a great trip and I am glad that we were able to go.
