Travel Day 1

A few observations from the first day of travel.

Lots of these flowers fallen on the sidewalk. They smell lovely. We brought a few back to the hotel room.
It turns out that, when they say "50 pounds maximum" they don't mean "87 pounds is okay too". Also, United sells cardboard boxes for $15, but charges $200 if you don't want to re-pack your bags. Also, all of the in-flight entertainment is locked behind a pay-wall. Blech.

You can't check baggage through if your layovers are more than X hours long, where X is less than 13 hours. Strangely enough, this is related to the same "security" excuse that allows the TSA to make me annoyed, but not quite annoyed enough to say anything I'll regret on the internet.

Babies fit in the foot-space that the children aren't using.

If you're a poor pilot and/or aircraft designer, don't fly KSP missions before you take your toddlers on a flight. They will expect your plane to perform similarly to what they have seen in the aircraft missions. When we touched down, the girls proclaimed loudly "Thank you for not landing in the water!"

Everyone tells us we're in Hawaii now, time to take a look around!
We took a walk down to Ke'ehi Lagoon Beach Park and played on the playground for a bit. Turns out Hawaii is hot and humid. Need to get everyone re-hydrated.

Hawaii feels very old-fashioned. There's a control tower at the airport which is very much like the on in Camarillo. My guess is they were built from the same aircraft base template. I didn't get a picture of it, so here's a picture of a crazy fire hydrant instead.
